Our teaching projects in Costa Rica are based in the rural communities and districts in and around the town of Escazu and Guanacaste. Are the ideal location for travel around Costa Rica. They are genuinely welcoming to all travelers and are eager to make everyone feel welcome.
1. SOCIAL PROJECTS: DAY CARE CENTER IN ESCAZU AND GUANACASTE AREA: is a program of the Costa Rican Health Ministery which consists in Nutrition Day Care Centers for children in high social risk all over the country.
They take care of the children, stimulate them and provide them with good nutrition. The volunteer needs to be active and love children. Patience, initiative and tolerance are necessary and the rules of the institution need to be respected. Please dress appropriately, you need to be a good example for the children.

PUBLIC SCHOOLS ESCAZU AREA: Located in a small rural community. Public schools have many children and normally there are from 35 to 40 children in each class. Teachers don't have assistants, so there is a great need for volunteer assistance. Volunteers can help the English teachers or the teachers of Sports or Arts, and if you have a little higher level of Spanish and you would like to help in the class of Science, Math, etc., that's possible too. You can help either in the school with children from 7 to 12 years old, or in the kinder with children from 5 to 6 years old.
The school have several projects works with recycling, maintenance, work to preserve the infrastructure of the school, embellishment of gardens. Accommodation with Tica's families in private room. 2. ECOLOGICAL PROJECTS: SAVING THE TOURTLES CARIBEAN AND PACIFIC SIDE: Those projects are located in Pacific and Caribbean cost, with que most beautiful vegetation and attractive environment. We works with leatherbacks turtles and with the green turtle in all the year we works with the community and the school , the project is closed on December . Works to make as a volunteer Among the activities of the volunteers are: night patrols in different shifts, one group goes from 20:00 to 00:00 and another from 00:00 to 04:00, in another shift is a kind of care nursery where they carry all eggs to guard them until they hatch, this is done in periods of 4 to 6 hours 24/7 depending on the number of volunteers who have the project. We also works in social works as a vegetable garden at the school which is right next to the project, teaching English at the school, make composting with coconut fiber, recycling program for plastic, maintenance work the volunteer house take turns every day to help in the kitchen, cleaning the beach, bird monitoring and different occasional social work. The place is surrounded by nature and is very safe site for volunteers, it is a small community where everyone knows each other and help each other, the Coast Guard station is 200 meters from the project, we don’t have electricity yet, but we have a solar panel that provides us with electricity to charge phones laptop etc. and it provides light for the night. Among other activities for the volunteer in their free time they are : sports on the beach , sunbathing , enjoying the sea , rent a Kayak, hiking the trails of nature reserve in the area, watching tours crocodiles, fishing tours, among many other activities and things you can do in your spare time RESCUE ANIMAL CENTER IN ESCAZU AND TURRUCARES: The Animal Rescue Center gives to the animals a second chance at life. Our dedicated staff and selfless volunteers work tirelessly to help these animals heal, keep them safe, rehabilitate them, and eventually re-release them into their natural habitat in the Costa Rican rainforest Who Can Volunteer? All who are interested! You should come ready to pitch in whenever necessary, and be willing live in basic conditions. There is no max age - we have had volunteers in their late sixties stay with us.
Minimum stay The minimum time to volunteer is two weeks; takes at least this amount of time to learn how to properly be able to care for the animals and receive the full experience. However, that volunteers who stay for two weeks or more tend to have the best experiences with us. The daily tasks include: 1. Preparing food for the animals 2. Feeding the howler monkeys, capuchin monkeys, sloths, birds (Scarlet Macaws, parrots, owls, and others), olingo, and kinkajous 3. Cleaning animal enclosures 4. Cleaning the common areas 5. Giving extra attention to the orphaned young animals (for example, Feluco; a young howler monkey) 6. General tidying of the Center (sweeping pathways, etc.) 7. Preparing toys and stimulating exercises for the animals 8. Caring for our resident dogs 9. And other great contributions you might have! We welcome creative initiative!
The Center do not allow alcoholic drinking, although the volunteers will occasionally go to local bars for an evening out. Smoking is allowed only in designated locations.
What Are the Conditions Like? Costa Rica has a warm and humid environment, but the Center is failry shaded, making the working conditions fairly comfortable. At the center have electricity, flush toilets, unheated showers, and Wi-Fi. The electricity occasionally goes out for several hours at a time, so is recommend volunteers bring a headlamp to get around at night. The Wi-Fi can be inconsistent, so come prepared to be off-line at times. The dorm rooms for the volunteers have 6-12 beds per room, and the center provide sheets and mosquito netting for each bed. The center has a pool, common area, book exchange, fire pit, and hammocks for relaxing during downtime. The cook prepares a variety of dishes for the communal meals, from traditional Costa Rican food to a mix of international dishes. There is a vegetarian option at every meal. If you have specific dietary needs, please inform us ahead of time and we will do our best to accommodate your needs. The center has a refrigerator available for the volunteers for personal snacks. There is a washing machine and clothesline available to clean your clothing. The volunteer arrives to San Jose, staying at a hotel, the next day preferably Sunday morning take a bus to the project. Acommodation in the project are in shared houses with rooms of 4 or 6 person. In all the projects you have a lot options for enjoy your free time: Spanish Lessons, Latin Dance lessons: Merengue, Salsa, Canopy, Rafting, Bungee Jumping, Canyoning, and Kayak Tours, bungee jump off a bridge, fly over the ocean, scuba dive (T.A.D.I. Certification), Surf, etc.

Our volunteers in general have to comply a work schedule of 6 to 8 hours, 5 days a week, depending on the needs and structure of each project. Every volunteer is responsible for his or her own international health, liability and life insurance.
To procure an enriching and beneficial experience for all the parts involved, volunteers pass an extensive orientation process before starting to work at their projects, and we also conduct preparatory meetings with projects and host families.
During the volunteer quest, constant monitoring is provided through phone calls, regular visits as well as meetings for evaluation and exchange of experiences. This way, we aspire to not only promote a good work relationship, but also that projects, volunteers and families take part and benefit from intercultural exchange, broadening horizons and creating friendships without frontiers.
